My previous job was a dead-end. I knew I had to move on, so I decided to start window shopping on Indeed. The first result of my search was ten24. I quickly updated my resume, applied, and got the job before I got my printed resumes. It seemed like it could be the perfect job, in the perfect location, with the perfect team — and it is.
I’ve been with ten24 since November 2017.
I am a front-end web developer. I tell my grandmother that I make websites pretty, which is the easiest way to describe it. I am part of the front-end team for Slatwall and Mura support. I also get to do some UX design, as well as connect with our outside vendors and freelancers.
I enjoy working on tasks that blur the lines between design and development. Getting to be involved throughout a project is really fun for me.
I first started my career in graphic design. While on the job, I taught myself front-end development using CSS/SASS and HTML. I really enjoyed applying my attention to detail to a technical world.
At one of my previous positions, we built our own project management tool using React, which was a language and structure I had never worked with, so that was a real challenge.
Keeping up with everything, but it’s a good challenge in a way, because in this field if you don’t keep up you will fall behind and not be relevant anymore. It’s important to keep up with trends and changing platforms.
A lot will change, I’m sure. Things are going to be faster than ever. I have seen some front-end development things that might be changing, for example, responsive text. There is always something better coming out.
Every good developer is a coffee drinker.
Start early and realize that learning doesn't end at graduation.
SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets) I love it! It makes writing CSS a lot faster and easier, and most of all, easier to maintain.
Anybody that knows me, knows I can usually be found at the rock climbing gym. I love it because It’s really fun and it requires every part of your being. Most people think you just have to be strong, which is true, but you also have to be flexible, have good endurance, good grip strength, and most importantly have the mental strength.
I don’t know if I have a favorite, but my go-to comfort movie is Sleepless in Seattle. My favorite actor of all time is Tom Hanks.
I haven’t been indulging in any snacks from the kitchen lately, but I do enjoy a piece of chocolate at the end of the day.
There was a restaurant in Paris, La Boîte aux Lettres, where I had the most amazing chicken, which is weird to rave about chicken.
When I was a freshman in college I did have to work a summer at Walmart as a cashier. That was bad.
I’ve always said if I could go back and do it over, I would go into animation. I’m obsessed with Pixar movies.
I don’t really play video games.
There are many different places I want to go, but for my next trip, my boyfriend and I are planning a scuba diving trip somewhere tropical and warm. We are both scuba certified. My favorite place I have been so far was in Glocester where we witnessed our instructor go lobstering.
